It’s Thanksgiving week, so welcome to the traveling season from HELL. We have all heard the stories of being on airport days for days, traffic jams that last 8 hours, and blizzards which strand an entire city. Sometimes there is basically nothing you can do to get where you are going sooner. Other times there are a few key ideas or actions which might make your travel plans go a bit smoother. I am offering you these tips, ideas, and hope that your travels are safe and joyful this year.

If you are going to travel via car get ready to go, and go and go. Make sure you bring a cell phone fully charged. Remember to bring your car adapter, and regular adapter. Be sure your car has been tuned up in the last month. If children are traveling with you this is a great time for any new electronic gadgets to be used. Have kids bring at least a couple CD’s, or DVD’s, Most laptop computers can play movies and music, so bring this with you.

Time-saving hints are simple for driving. Basically, drive when others are not as likely to drive. Do you really have to be at the Thanksgiving table, or would it be less stressful to start a new tradition of arriving on Black Friday? Or to reverse this, how about heading out town Tuesday, instead of Wednesday. This might be preferred for long distant trips. Be flexible, and willing to respond to the traffic and road conditions.

Flying out for the holiday? be ready to get to the airport extra early. The lines at security are long, so make things easy on yourself, Do not bring any kind of liquids in carrying on suitcases. Wear sandals, or easy to take off shoes. Always try to take straight flights. Dress kids in same color hats or backpacks to keep track of them. Always, ALWAYS keep all medications, ID’s, travel information, passports, and other important documents in carry-ons. Get snacks or meals after going through security. Send all of your plane plans to at least 2 other people through email.

Remember that everyone is trying to get somewhere. Try to survive the journey in order to enjoy family and friends for the holidays
